Horizon: Controls the year used for calculation of the percentage change in net assets. For example, "2Y" calculates the percentage change relative to two years ago.
Institution Exclusion: These controls can be used to exclude institutions from the dataset.
To see all the data, select "Off".
For a less cluttered view, use a small standard deviation like "±1σ" which limits the view to data within one standard deviation of the mean for all institutions.

- The data considers all 4-year public and private non-profit U.S. institutions that grant bachelors degrees or above. Some institutions meeting this description are excluded when the relevant financial data is not availble for the period from 2018 - 2023. See a list of those institutions here.
- Currently operating, private for-profit institutions are excluded from the plot.
- Closed 4-year institutions (public, private non-profit, private for-profit) are shown with open red circles.
- Institutions which are shaded yellow in the table have negative values for total assets (or net position)
- Institutions which are shaded red in the table have both negative values for total assets (or net position) and negative percentage change for the chosen horizon.
